TMBRA Race #2- STORM Hill Country Challenge, 03/13/11: Another Barney Fife sighting
Race #2 is gonna be at the ever so leg crushing Flat Rock Ranch in Comfort Texas. Its not an Omnium this year which is a little disappointing cause OMW loves the Omnium and the Omnium loves OMW!! Its a straight up cross country race, one stage. That’s fine cause we just like racing our bikes and drinking beer!! We re meeting at Lances places on Saturday to head over to the ranch and set up camp and get a preride in. Looks like Dan, Lance, and Jeff get loaded up in the Green Manalishi with, new guy, Gerad (with a G) follows in his own ride. Gerad’s been wanting to try out racing and found our website and decided to come join our Friday TGIF rides in the park. Social media is amazing! Turns out Gerad is a strong rider and may just fit right in. We’ll give him a try out and see what happens.
I aways enjoy or road trips around Texas and the drive thru the hill country is a beautiful one. We got tall dogs fallin and we re making it official. Its race weekend once again. Dont forget we got some Top Ten overall racers and need to protect our spots, or in some cases make some moves into the top ten, hear that Dan? We roll into the ranch and head right to our spot but looks like they have moved the start line and its encroaching our camp spot. We decide to go around a few barriers and make a spot anyway. We its not long before Barney Fife comes over hot n bothered telling us the spot is reserved. no signs, no markers, just his word. We send him scurrying off with some well placed words about how we have the “ok” but he returns with backup!! Long story short we end up in the same locale but pushed over just a bit. We have both canopies tied together and 3 tents in the back. We got our own ZIP CODE!! Thats just how we dooooz it yo!! Dont they know who we are? ?
Coming in just behind us is “moments notice” Josh bailey in for the race weekend. “Clipless” Deanne Moehn is staying at the Leyendeckers Hacienda in Kerrvile with the girls for the weekend but is available for a preride as well. “Ready” Rob Remlinger comes in on race day with his lovely wife Janet. We got a whole crew of 7 racers on the line and we have a cheering section as well. We are gonna make some noise. Did I mention we got the jammin cooler that goes to 11? Well we do and we got the jams going! Preride in the books and now we just gotta fuel up and get hydrated. Jeff has prepared a batch of supor spaghetti and Josh made a big salad. Deanne brought oodles of donuts as usual. The coolers are filled with tall dogs. We are SOOO ready!!! Lets get it on!!!
Race morning is here. Cat 3′s are off first so Josh, Jeff, and Deanne are off and rolling. None of them have done this race before so will be interesting. Cat 2′s off next, 2 laps, the lower loop and then the hillier upper loop. (Cat 3′s just doing the lower loop). Turns out our cheering section made it up to Hospital hill to watch us come thru and drop in. Its always nice to have a crowd cheering you on as you launch off the ledge. Everyone makes it around without major problems just sore legs.
Another great day of racing our bikes all over the great state of Texas. OMW Racing comes and represents in full effect as usual!! Gerad makes a surprising first effort and storms to a 5th place finish in his first MTB race, way to go Gerad!! Deanne puls down 6th place. Lance brings home a 10th place finish as does Rob in the singlespeed group. Dan suffers a bit and comes in 12th. Josh gets 17th place in a really large group, anf Jeff gets on the board in 27th. Way to get some points Jefe!!
After race #2 of the TMBRA series, OMW Racing has 4 riders in their respective TOP TENS!! Is that any good?? Hells yes and we have alot more racing to do. Congrats to all the team for a job well done and done in loud and proud OMW racing style!!
