Race #2 comes along after back to back weekends of great mountain bike racing and riding. One weekend we’re in Warda, Tx. racing and the next weekend we’re inthe Big Bend National and State Parks area in Lajitas, Tx. knocking out 90 miles of sweet desert trail riding. Well, no time for sitting around because this weekend we’re at Flat Rock Ranch in Comfort, Tx. for the STORM Hill Country Challenge for the 2nd race of the TMBRA State Championship Series. OMW put 10 racers on the line this weekend. Now that we got the training wheels off our first time racers, its time for them to get some results. It was a beautiful weekend for racing and who doesnt like the great trails they have out there. Theyre known to break your legs off, or even break your collar bone, just ask Big Joe Love bout that one. The OMW crew got a nice spot on the hill just above the starting line for our weekend camping spot. Of course we flew the NEW OMW Team logo banner all weekend long and you could see it from ERYWHERE!!! We had another weekend of good results to start the season out. We had 4 top 10′s this weekend and 8 in the top 20. Gerad had another podium finish and it looks like its gonna be a streak (No, he kept his clothes on). With Gerad’s solid 3rd place finish at this race he takes over 1st place overall in his Cat 2 age group. Is that any good?? Hells yes!!! The results are listed below:
It was a cool drizzly morning in Austin as the OMW wrecking crew prepares to embark to the Chihuahuan Desert Dirt Festival in Terlingua, TX. This is the first trip for some, just another in the books for others. But as we made the final equipment adjustments in those early morning hours one thing was clear, this trip would bring much riding, tall dogs, happy hours at the Starlight and all around debauchery. Deanne, Gregg, Chuck, Shannon & Jason lead out, and the Green Manalishy (Lances Green Tahoe) close behind with Dan, Lance, Gerad, and Jay. Bringing up the rear of this West Texas Desert bound train is “Chef” Brian Stubbs cuz he’s runnin late and we got to get on the road. As we leave Austin city limits the unmistakable “CRUUUUNCH” of an empty Tall Dog echoes triumphantly through the Green Manalishy. Ah yes, we’re on our way. As we make our way through the Texas Hill Country and into Big Country, things begin to clear up, weather wise that is, because this is where cell service is spotty at best and memories tend to get a little hazy, but no matter, that’s how OMW DUZ IT and we’re fine with it thank you very much!
The Spring race season is finally here. Its been a long time coming and we cant wait to race our bikes all over the great state of Texas. We made a lot of deposits over the winter and now its time to make some withdrawals. Hope we put enough in the bank to make a splash on the Texas State Championship Series. 11 OMW racers are on the line for the season opener at The Warda Race at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda, Texas. 5 of the 11 were first time racers. OMW Racing is sporting newly designed kits this year with an updated team logo. I can tell theyre gonna be super fast. We set up our own zip code by the front pond like we usually do so we can watch some good race action. It was butt ass cold race day morning, think it was like 29 degrees but felt colder. I berated the Cat 3 racers on the team cause they were gonna get a warmer start time. I was wrong, it didnt warm up any and in fact it started to sleet just after they started racing. Poor guys, but welcome to mountain bike racing. We dont wait for the weather. It turned out to be a great weekend for OMW Racing. We had 2 top 10′s and 7 in the top 20. The results are listed below:
Ahhh yes- Terlingua, TX. Making more great memories out in the desert along with a great group of fellow riders. Well, speaking of memories- does anybody really even remember just what the heck happened during all those dayz of haze spent in the desolate beauty of The Bend of West Texas?! Well, the best I can figure, being a few tall dogs deep after our most recent TGIF ride seems to be exactly the right circumstance for me to recollect. Soo…as I recall it…
Roadtrippin’
As always, we meet up at Eddie’s. I bring plenty’o’tie wraps and other assorted accoutrements- heaven knows what kinda mess we’re gonna encounter whilst gettin’ our bevy of bikes all strapped down for the loooong haul and whatnot (what, my solid thru-axle fork doesn’t fit one of those lil’ regular ol’ bikerack thingymajiggies?). But hell, meeting in deep South Austin @ the love shack means we’re practically already there and about to pull into our customized Terlingua campsite, right?…yeah, RIGHT…Keep telling yourself that while you’re getting yourself an 8 hour highway tour of the vast Texas countryside’s varied geology. Now if you’ve never had the pleasure, then please indulge me and try to picture it in your minds eye while I give you the 411:
Its a new year people. With the new year there are new people in our world and we have renewed plans to make it a great year of racing our bikes all over the Great State of Texas. We have some new racers for OMW this year and we have some of the usual suspects reinvigorated for the race season. All said we have 15 racers ready to get on that line this year.
We want to welcome Jay Lopez, Gregg Colvin, and Don Schwieters to the team for 2012, all are 1st time racers and have been spending some time riding with us over the winter in preparation for the 2012 Spring Championship series.
OMW racing has new kits in production and we plan to make a big splash on the Championship Series. Everyone knows mountain biking is half style. We plan to represent in loud and proud OMW racing style just like we always have. We had 4 racers in the top 10 last year and plan to better that in 2012. We are also sporting a new OMW racing logo for 2012.
Everyone is getting fired up for our annual winter training camp in Terlingua, Texas. We will be making the annual pilgrimage to the Chihuahuan Desert Dirt Fest February 16th-18th over Presidents Day weekend. This will be OMW racings’ 15th year in the Desert!! Is that any good? We have a whole crew going to represent and ride the awesome desert trails. I bet we’ll find a little time for Margaritas over at the Starlight Theater for happy half hour. (we tend to get there a lil early and stay a lil bit late). Dont forget the party bus!! We got the Godfather and chef Brian Stubbs in the house and will be having some good eats while we’re there. We’ll see you there!
We will have already started the Spring Championship Series at that point as the Warda race will be the previous weekend, 02/11-02/12/12. Then we go to Terlingua, Tx. 02/15-02/19/12. The Next weekend will be Race #2 in Comfort, Tx. 02/25-02/26/12, The very next weekend is Race #3 in Dripping Springs, Tx. 03/03-03/04/12. I sure hope its gonna be at Flat Creek Crossing, I have been missing riding those trails and its been a long time. In case you were keeping track thats 4 weekends of racing and riding all over this great state of Texas in February and the beginning of March and there are still 5 races to go for the Texas State Championship Series. Are you ready for this??? The deposits have been made and its almost time to start making the withdrawals. Lets get this party started people!!!
OMW Bitches!!
